Watercolor, November 2014

One in a series of small watercolors (8x6") inspired by the photos of my friend, Sara. I was really captivated by the rural quality of the scenes and the pop of the autumn leaves and how they relect in water.

I painted this for a woman with the Greater Boston Timetrade Circle in Jan 2014. She gave me an airline advertisement from a 1973 Newsweek magazine that had an image like this. She had saved it because she always loved what the scene evoked. I only painted the one, and people ask me if it's for sale more than anything else I have ever painted. Sorry, folks.

Utah's southern parks and landscapes present endless inspiration. This is Balancing Rock (formation in the center) as seen from a distance. The rock itself is about the size of a house and is "balanced" on the tip of another rock tower, which is maybe 6 stories tall. The green in the foreground represents desert plants, which were about waist height.

This is one my personal favorites and it sold quickly (July 2013). It's very dark and richly saturated for a watercolor. I got the inspiration from a weekend getaway in Nantucket and some realtor ads I saw in the tourist magazines.

I was inspired by a friend's daily blog of photos of Central Park after I visited New York a few times in the fall of 2015. I love the tranquility of its open spaces against the backdrop of the nearby skyscrapers.

A very loose, impressionistic rendering of an urban oasis in Boston in Spring. I was delighted to sell this piece along with its "sisters" completed in the same style and of similar scenes in and around Belmont, MA.

I love the challenge of painting winter landscapes. Of course the white of the snow isn't easy, but I also try to capture the peacefulness and stillness that can come with the season. This view is the view from my friends' house in New Hampshire.

I painted a series of images based on photographs and my memories of living in and traveling through Egypt and other countries. This one and others were displayed in Washington, DC, at the Middle East Institute's library and are among my favorites.

The inspiration for this painting is from my memory of living in Cairo in the late 1980s. Then, it was possible to climb minarets of old and new mosques and see the commanding view of the city shimmering in the heat, sun, and dust. Not sure whether one can do that today or not.
